How does the Flex Belt work?
The belt is like any flexible abdominal toning belt, but it has three fixed-position gel pads which cover the central abs and the obliques. It uses electronic muscle stimulation (EMS) to contract, hold and release your mid-section, working all of the muscles at the same time.
Why is it better than sit-ups?
Many of us already incorporate fitness and cardio into our daily routine, and just can’t find the time to work on our core. Plus we all know how stubborn the stomach area can be to try and tone up. What does it feel like?
This was the question that I was asked the most. It’s not an unpleasant sensation; you can feel your muscles contract, hold and then release. I exercise quite a lot, so started at level 60 and got up to level 100 out of 150 after 4 weeks. At the moment, anything above 100 is pretty intense, even for someone like me that is a keen gym-goer, but I’m looking forward to progressing! Afterwards, you can really feel the effect, it’s like you’ve had a hard session in the gym.
How often do I need to do it?
The manufacturers recommend using it 5 times a week, for 30 minutes a day. In 30 minutes, it contracts 150 times.
How quickly do you see results?
When I started using the belt, my 34 waist jeans were a snug fit and I could usually grab an inch or so above the waistband. After the first week, where I did five 30-minute sessions at intensity levels 60-80, I noticed some definition around the obliques and felt as though my whole core section was tightening up. After 2 weeks, where I got up to level 85, my back and core felt so much stronger. At the end of week 3 I was up to 95 and my jeans were fitting normally, and after 4 weeks I peaked at level 100. Whilst I still have a little way to go, I am definitely going in the right direction and am starting to see the beginnings of a six-pack! I was eating my normal healthy diet and continuing to run during the month’s trial, as it’s not a miracle working – you still have to put the effort in.
How often do I need to change the gel pads?
With the right care, the Gel Pads will last for around 20-30 session; up to six weeks if you’re using them five days a week. I would recommend to our readers ordering a couple of extra sets when you’re getting your belt, so that you’ve always got some spares and aren’t waiting around for new deliveries. If you do the following you can extend the life of the gel pads by at least three months:
- Before you start using the belt, wet the tips of your fingers with lukewarm water and wet the gel pad surface (this will maintain the water level in the gel for months of use).
- After using, apply hand sanitizer to clean the gel pads.
- Right after using the belt, put the plastic covers back on.
Is it suitable for everyone?
The Flex Belt is touted as suitable for all levels of fitness, from beginners to athletes, new mothers and those with back pain. However, it’s not recommended for those with heart problems including those wearing pacemakers, or any diabetes sufferers that inject insulin, or those with cancer. PLEASE NOTE: for new moms, it’s recommended that they wait a minimum of 6 weeks after the birth (or 3 months after a caesarean) to allow scar tissue to fully heal before commencing exercise.

My opinion of the Flex Belt
